As we exit the Christmas season having celebrated our Savior's birth, we spring into the new year. As we move into January we will hit the halfway mark for the school year.
Yes, The School Year is Almost Half Over
January 16 will mark the midway point of the second trimester as well as the midway point of the 2024-2025 school year. (Yes, it is flying by.) If you have not been checking your child’s grades on the Family Portal for FACTS SIS, I encourage you to do so.
If you have any concerns, please contact the teacher so that you may work together for your child’s success. Also, remember that you should be able to see what your child is studying in each class as well as his/her homework for each class under the lesson plan section in FACTS SIS. For more detailed information about assignments you can ask your child to show you their Google Classroom in each major subject area.
Worship and Prayer Night: Mr. Parris has been sending information out in regards to our Worship and Prayer night on Wednesday, 1/8/24. This will be a time of fellowship, worship, prayer, and celebration for God’s provision of our new building. Please mark your calendars and I’m looking forward to seeing you there!
Transportation Information/Guidelines for Inclement Weather
INCLEMENT WEATHER or EMERGENCIES that cause DELAYS, DISMISSALS, and CLOSURES.
Bus Riders-If your student is a bus rider it is best to see if your district is transporting that day by checking their website or signing up for their alerts. If CCS is adjusting our hours there will be a Parent Alert by Mr. Parris. Our website may not be updated until after the alert is sent out. The guidelines below may help with the many different scenarios.
Car Riders or Drivers-If your student is a car rider or driver, you have full discretion. We mark any lateness or absence as excused. Discretion is yours any day whether there is a Parent Alert or not.
Van/Minibus Riders-Listen to Parent Alerts and watch for possible contact from your driver. There may be instances when we do not run the vans or run them late. Van drivers are the first notified of changes.
Here are some different scenarios to consider:
YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT IS CLOSED DUE TO THE WEATHER BUT CCS IS OPEN
Your district will not provide busing. The student needs to be transported by car or remain home. Absence excused.
IF YOUR DISTRICT IS OPEN BUT CCS IS CLOSED
Districts may still send a bus to your stop, especially if there are other districts or schools riding along with CCS students! The Parent Alert will let you know first so you don’t send your student to the stop.
IF YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT IS ON A TWO HOUR DELAY BUT CCS IS NOT
Busing will be delayed two hours. You may drive your student in or they can arrive late by bus. The lateness is excused.
IF YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT IS NOT ON A TWO HOUR DELAY BUT CCS IS
Districts will only bus on their schedule. You are responsible for the later morning transportation or the student could remain home. It is important to remember that an un-informed bus driver may still allow the student on the bus but no one would be at CCS!
IF YOUR DISTRICT HAS AN EMERGENCY EARLY DISMISSAL
Your district will inform you about any early dismissals or monitor their website. Your student will be dismissed early if they are typically a bus rider that day of the week. If you want to change this, meaning you do not want your child to leave early, you will need to call or email the front desk to prevent the child from being dismissed. The early departure is excused. Keep informed by checking the district website.
IF YOUR DISTRICT IS NOT CLOSING EARLY BUT CCS IS
You will have received a Parent Alert and will need to pick up your student if your district is not closing at approximately the same time.
IF YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT HAS AN INSERVICE DAY it is not closed. It will provide transportation.
Snow Day Reminder
If we were to get snow and we were to have a 2-hour delay or a snow day, you would be notified by CCS’ Parent Alert System via email, text, and email.
Also, if we have a snow day, unless Mr. Parris directs otherwise, we will have MS & HS online virtual core classes that day. Below are the expectations for a virtual day.
When Mr. Parris calls a snow day, MS core class (Bible, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) teachers will post their class lessons by 8:00 a.m. (These can be pre-recorded lessons, videos from online, IXL/Khan Academy/etc. lessons, textbook or literature reading, research, work on projects, etc.)
There will be some type of evaluation for the students to turn into their teachers.
Students will have until 11:59 p.m. to complete their assignments .
Rotations classes will have no assignments.
Teachers will be available by email from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for students to contact them with questions.
Students and parents should communicate via email with the teachers/principal if there is an issue with WIFI at home.
Finally, students must go to their homeroom Google Classroom and mark themselves present by 2:30 p.m. to be counted as present for the day.
Check out Mrs. Turner's video that explains virtual lessons during snow days.
MS Fundraiser for March Madness
The middle school will be holding a Krispy Kreme donut fundraiser the month of January to underwrite most of the cost for the middle school's march madness activities. March Madness takes place on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of the week of March 24. Each day we will have activities that focus upon our CCS Mission statement of Educating the whole person body, mind, and spirit for God. More information will follow as we get closer to the week of March 24. Below is a link to the Krispy Kreme order form and a paper copy will be sent home with your child today, January 6.
